12 Bucks A Week
Oil on Canvas
1999
12 Bucks a Week was painted after I talked to the Aboriginal Prisoners at the Bathurst Gaol. It was the year 1999 the year before the Olympics. The Aboriginal prisoners told me they were paid $12.00 to paint artifacts and paintings that were to be sold at the coming Olympics. This painting shows prison officers in the middle and squatters coming up the sides of the painting. I wrote many words on the painting some are CORRUPTION, NEPOTISM, GRAFT. This painting was first shown at The Powerhouse Museum at The Tribute to Mum Shirl.
